ANDROID SMARTPHONE BASICS (CLASS 1)

Prerequisites:
  • Have activated Android smartphone.
  • Know the basics of unlocking the phone.
  • The phone should be less than 6 years old. 

Objectives:
  1. Understand hardware keys and layout.
  2. Perform various touchscreen actions.
  3. Customize home screen settings.
  4. Navigate menus, options, and context pop-ups.
  5. Enter text using the keyboard, microphone, and predictive text features.
  6. Use the Google Play Store effectively.

Description:

This introductory course provides a comprehensive overview of Android smartphone fundamentals, designed for users of various Android devices running versions 11-14. It is highly recommended that students also take the other classes to get a full understanding of the smartphone.

The curriculum covers seven key areas:

  1. Hardware Components: Detailed examination of physical buttons, keys, and their functions across different Android devices, with particular focus on Samsung Galaxy models.
  2. Basic Setup: Instructions for configuring WiFi connectivity for both private and public networks.
  3. Touch Screen Navigation: Comprehensive coverage of essential touch gestures including tapping, holding, dragging, swiping, pinching, and screen rotation functionality.
  4. Home Screen Management: Detailed exploration of home screen customization, including icon arrangement, widget implementation, notification handling, and status bar interpretation.
  5. Menu Systems: Overview of options and context menus, focusing on their accessibility and functional differences in various applications.
  6. Text Input Methods: In-depth coverage of keyboard operation, including predictive text, auto-correction features, and voice input capabilities.
  7. App Management: Guide to utilizing the Google Play Store for app discovery, installation, and management, including account setup and security considerations.
The course acknowledges variations across different manufacturers and carriers while maintaining focus on core Android functionality. Practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises are integrated throughout the curriculum, with specific attention to security considerations and best practices for device usage.
